My Business:

Lukes's Treehouse Child Care & Preschool is in its tenth year of operation.  Luke's Treehouse is operated in the lower level of my home where I have dedicated space for the children.  The new infant area is coming along!   I work with my husband Daniel and my assistant Maria. 

Ages of children range from infant to preschool.  This age range has benefits for the children.  First, it is similar to a family where children are commonly of multiple ages and stages.  Secondly it allows children to learn about development, be helpful and fosters empathy towards others.  It also promotes more devlopment of leadership in older children, while also promoting more verbal and development in the younger children. 

We have just attained the group childcare home designation which allows us to care for up to 20 children. (5 yrs.ago)

About Me: 

I have lived in Columbia since 1996 when I came to enter the College of Education at MU.  I completed student teaching experiences at both preschool and upper grade levels.  I spent one semester as a preschool teacher at Mizzou's Child Development Lab.  I graduated in 2000 with a Family & Consumer Science Degree and began  teaching.  I continued to gain a Masters degree in Education from MU in 2006.  In 2007 I attained National Board Certification for teaching. 

After 10 years of successful teaching I started my own child care & preschool center named after my youngest son Luke and the treehouse his dad built for him in our back yard.  I decided to call my new business Luke's Treehouse Child Care & Preschool.

About my family:

My husband Daniel works with me.  I have 3 boys.  They have all graduated from MU. 

What do I do when I am not working? 

I have been a volunteer with the Boy Scouts where I was an assistant scoutmaster with a local troop and a Unit Commissioner for 3 units- 1 troop and 2 cub scout packs.  I like to read and go to the movies.
